DaPonte String Quartet Winter Series III: "Obsessions"

5/5/18 - 5/13/18

"Obsessions", the DaPonte String Quartet’s final series of the season, explores three very different kinds of obsession in works by Hugo Wolf, Franz Schubert, and Bela Bartok.

“Obsessions” has five performances, from May 5-13, in Boothbay Harbor, Brunswick, Portland, Rockport, and Damariscotta.

While Wolf’s “Italian Serenade” is a light-hearted look at young men smitten by love, Bartok’s Quartet No. 2 is a reflection of his obsession with the folk music of his native Hungary. And words like “enormous,” “massive,” and “monumental” are always used to describe Schubert’s Quartet No. 15 in G Major, written in the last year of his tragically brief life.

Performances of “Obsessions” are:

o May 5 – 4:00 pm – St. Columba’s Church, 32 Emery Lane, Boothbay Harbor;

o May 6 – 3:00 pm – Unitarian Church, 15 Pleasant St., Brunswick;

o May 10 – 7:30 pm – Jewish Museum, 267 Congress St., Portland;

o May 11 – 7:00 pm – Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St., Rockport; and

o May 13 -- 3:00 pm – Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St., Damariscotta.
