Maine Starlight Festival

Come join the AMC for Maine's Starlight Festival. The festival is a statewide celebration to promote the enjoyment and protection of Maine's stellar night sky. We believe that it is a valuable natural resource that should be protected through science, education, and the arts. Maine has more stars than any state east of the Mississippi and Gorman Chairback Lodge and Cabins is one of the best places to see them. Isolated from the urban sprawl that has subdivided the farms and forests of the eastern United States, the forestland of Maine's Great Northern Woods remain largely intact, pristine and unspoiled - Maine at its very best. AMC Maine Wilderness Lodges will celebrate by holding a Starlight Weekend. Expert Peter W Lord Founder/President of the Astronomy Institute of Maine will be on hand to act as your guide to this star-studded weekend. Come discover the emerging science of Night Sky Quality, satellite imagery detailing light pollution around the world. We will be holding two evening programs including guided tours of the summer Milky Way and the constellations of summer. Easy to use telescopes developed for the Maine Telescope Library program will be available for hands on exploration. Saturday we will offer a guided hike to the summit of Third Mountain. Activities planned for all ages. Rates include lodging, meals, evening programs including one night stargazing with a telescope, and a guided hike. Higher rates apply for private cabins.
