Vinalhaven Historical Society Museum

The Vinalhaven Historical Society Museum preserves and interprets the history of Vinalhaven, one of Maine’s largest year-round island communities. The museum documents island life through collections that reflect work, home and community traditions.

Holdings include photographic, genealogical and vital records, along with artifacts from local schools and homes, Civil War materials and tools related to farming, fishing and the granite industry. The museum is housed in a historic building originally constructed in 1836 as a Universalist church in Rockland and later relocated to Vinalhaven, where it has served civic roles before becoming the society’s headquarters.
