Begin the day in Richmond at Annabella's Bakery and Café.

Pack a picnic lunch and water.

Board the five-minute ferry ride across the Kennebec River to Swan Island. Explore this historic island at the head of Merrymeeting Bay. Day hikers, campers, and birders are all welcome. There are 7+ miles of trails. The entire island is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The day use fee is $8.00 per person. There are four scheduled ferries each day, BUT RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE IN ADVANCE by calling 207-547-5322.

Walk up the hill and treat yourself to a yummy ice cream from Main Street Dairy Treat. Perfect afternoon treat!

Check in for the evening at Maple Hill Farm in Hallowell.

Local Tips:

Ride or walk the Kennebec River Rail Trail, a six-mile trail from Augusta to Gardiner.

Meander through Vaughan Woods and Historic Homestead.

Grab a brew at Liberal Cup Public House and Brewery, a 7-barrel brewpub.

Have dinner at A-1 Diner in Gardiner or Slates in Hallowell. Both are longtime favorites.
