Riding in a hot air balloon is a slow and gentle form of flight that affords you a 360-degree view of the landscape below. You’ll fly over forests, fields, towns and cities. The hour just after sunrise is typically the best time to enjoy a balloon flight, as the temperature is cool and the wind is usually ideal. At least six companies provide hot air balloon rides throughout the state. If you'd just like to watch balloons fly instead, attend one of three annual hot air balloon festivals: the Great Falls Balloon Festival, the Skowhegan Arts and Air Festival, and the Crown of Maine Balloon Festival.
