You can choose from more than 2,500 lakes and ponds nestled among Maine's woods and mountains to plan a flatwater kayaking adventure. You can paddle at such destinations as Moosehead Lake, Grand Lake Stream, Portage Lake or Sebago Lake, while you keep an eye out for moose, deer, beavers, hawks, ospreys, eagles and loons. You can also fish for brook and lake trout, bass and pickerel.

You can rent equipment from outfitters throughout the state, many of which offer the choice of one- or two-person boats, plus a full range of accessories. You and your family can also take a guided lake kayaking tour for a half day or full day. Tour packages come with kayaks, gear, shuttle services and lunch. Guides will also teach you paddling techniques and tell you about the local area. You can stay at a lakeside lodge or cabin, where you can enjoy a home-style meal and relax by a fire at the end of the day.
