The long, finger-like peninsulas that define the coast from Casco Bay to Penobscot Bay have a lot to do with why Maine boasts a longer coastline than California’s whopping beachfront acreage. Here, harbors and fishing villages have remained largely unchanged during the last century or so.

Saltwater fishing is a crowd favorite, with striped bass, bluefish and mackerel the primary targets. Charter boats offer offshore shark and Bluefin tuna trips.

Inland, the freshwater offers a large white perch population, with some of the best largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing opportunities found anywhere. There are trout to be found in the remote corners of this region as well for the freshwater fishing enthusiast.
