Bucksport is nestled at the meeting point of the Penobscot River and Penobscot Bay. Here you can explore a mile-long walkway along the Penobscot River, go walking or running along the Miles Lane Trails, or go boating or fishing on Silver Lake or in the bay. In July, you can attend the Bucksport Bay Festival, which features food, music, a parade, fireworks and Civil War reenactments.
You can also ascend the 42-story Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory in Prospect-Bucksport to get a 360-degree view of the Maine coast. This is the only bridge observatory in the United States and only one of four bridge observatories in the world. It's open from May to October. Across the bay, you’ll see Fort Knox, one of the largest fortifications on the New England seacoast. You can visit the fort from May to November.
