Caribou is the most northeastern city in America. You can use Caribou’s trailheads on the Aroostook Valley Trail and the Bangor & Aroostook Trail as starting points to explore more than 1,000 miles of marked trails. You can go ATV riding, cross-country skiing, biking, running or walking on these trails. Giant snow sculptures are the highlight of the Caribou Winter Carnival & Snowmobile Festival that takes place each February—and spring is celebrated with the City Wide Yard Sale in May, which includes an arts and crafts fair.

From Caribou, you can also explore the northern reaches of the St. John Valley and the southern part of the county via the Northeast Snowmobile Trail and the Interconnected Snowmobile Trail System. The city and its local clubs maintain 170 miles of the county’s 1,600-mile snowmobile trail system.

You'll find displays about geology, archaeology, paleontology, taxidermy, shells and butterflies at the Nylander Museum of Natural History. The museum exhibits the collections of Swedish-born naturalist Olof Nylander, who spent years studying the fauna of Aroostook County.
