The Neal Dow Memorial is the home of one of America’s best known leaders of the Temperance and Abolition reform movements of the 1800s. General Dow was acclaimed throughout the United States, as well as across the globe, as being the “Father of Prohibition”. The home is a Federal-style design built in 1829 with approximately 98% of the home being in its original state. By visiting the Dow Memorial, it is our hope that you will better understand why Neal Dow chose Temperance, Prohibition and Abolition as his path of service and why he is considered one of our Nation’s greatest national treasures.
