The L. C. Bates Museum is an early 20th century natural history and cultural museum, housed in a three-story historic Romanesque revival building on the Good Will-Hinckley campus. Exhibits include 32 Maine wildlife habitat dioramas featuring Maine birds and mammals in their natural settings. Other exhibits include Americana, art, archaeology, minerals, cabinets of curiosities, ethnology, Maine history and more. Miles of nature trails on the 2,540-acre campus, picnic tables and an arboretum are open to the public. Art exhibits feature contemporary Maine artists. Numerous scheduled and pre-arranged group-guided nature workshops and hikes are offered from April through November. Programs are tailored to different age groups and interests.
