Hirundo is a 2,400 acre nature preserve, spanning Pushaw and Dead Streams, and Lac D'Or (lake). The Refuge encompasses land ranging from extensive peat lands, reverting farm lands, flood plain forests, and upland conifer and deciduous forests. We welcome the public to explore seven miles of hiking trails, paddle along the waterways observing beaver, mink, and numerous birds, all FREE. Our mission is to preserve wildlife and habitat, promote biological diversity, and protect cultural and natural resources special to Maine. The Refuge is available as a living laboratory for education and research. We believe that what benefits animals and the habitat they live in also benefits people and the pleasure they derive from being in nature.
