Kate Weare’s dances explore intimacy, both tender and stark, by drawing on the body’s power to speak with a clarity that transcends the spoken word. She decodes a language of movement that illuminates the shifting emotions influencing our relations. Weare returns to Bates with two new works. In Dark Lark, featuring a brilliant score by electro-acoustic cello virtuoso, Chris Lancaster, Weare honors the erotic imagination as a metaphor for creativity. In Marksman, which features an original score by Curtis Macdonald, Weare mines the magnetism and electrical connection between bodies that is emotionally resonant, imbuing Marksman with power, attraction, hierarchy, vulnerability and aloneness.
