Industry Session from 8-11 Day-Long Festival 11-5 Evening Ticketed Dinner 5:30-10

The 1st Maine Seaweed Festival at Southern Maine Community College

The Maine Seaweed Festival will take place on Saturday, August 30th from 11 am to 5 pm. The event will be held, rain or shine, along the coast on the Southern Maine Community College Campus.

Maine seaweeds are poised to play a major role in the growth and sustainability of our local economy and global health. The Festival is an event that will celebrate the dedicated harvesters, farmers, fishermen and processors who continue to invest their efforts in creating a viable and vibrant local seaweed industry.

The mission of the non-profit Maine Seaweed Festival is to raise awareness and educate the public about the positive impact that Maine Macroalgae is having in our local food culture, agriculture and aquaculture industries, as well as it’s growing role in the academic arts and sciences. Seaweed Fest is a free FREE event, that will feature diverse ways to enjoy local seaweeds through food, art, healing, kid’s activities, inspiring speakers, music, and more.

The day’s events will culminate with a ticketed dinner that will include the combined talents of several local chefs, farmers and purveyors, as well as the welcomed presence of National Geographic Fellow and Barton Seaver. Chef Seaver will guide conversation about what “sustainable seafood” means and how we can engage in restorative culinary practices for the improved health of our body, land and ocean. This will be a rare opportunity to receive a priceless edible education, while supporting our local Fisheries and Marine Education here in Maine.
